A 9-lake chain only a short drive from Chicago and Madison, the Fox Chain O’ Lakes are some of the few, naturally formed glacier lakes in Illinois. The chain is home to strong, native populations of pike, perch, bluegill, and catfish, and is kept well-stocked with trophy-sized muskie, walleye, largemouth, and smallmouth.
While the deeper lakes in the chain see fairly high boat traffic (the downside of being so conveniently located near the city), there are plenty of shallower lakes where fishermen can catch good numbers and sizes of fish in a peaceful, scenic setting.
Bait shops, equipment, boat rentals, and campgrounds can be found around the town of Fox Lake, along with everything else a visiting fisherman could need for a trip. Local guides can help anglers find the hot spots, otherwise maps are available at many area retailers.
