Spring, Summer Fall or Winter. There is no better time then the present to enjoy Boulder Junction, WI located in 240,000 acres of state forests featuring one of the finest biking and hiking scenic trails in the Northwoods. There are trails available for all types of hikers and bicyclists – some are easy – great for a relaxing ride with the family. Try a more challenging trail filled with turns and hills for bicycle enthusiasts.
With nearly 200 lakes within 10 miles of town, and more than 50 Class A musky lakes, Boulder Junction offers endless opportunities and challenges for visiting anglers. Area lakes have produced an impressive number of trophy muskies and consistent numbers of bass, while the nearby Manitowish River provides a unique fly-fishing experience thanks to its large population of trout.
The real secret of the Boulder Junction area would be the many smaller, bog lakes scattered throughout the forests. While it might take some research (or the help of a local guide) to find them, the heavy cabbage weeds in these areas hide surprising numbers of good-sized musky, northern, and bass.
Fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts are welcomed like family to the area. Quaint lakeside cabins, clean campgrounds, and comfortable hotel rooms are just a few of the many lodging options available. Swing by one of the local delis or fast food restaurants for a quick snack, or get a table at one of the many fine family restaurants for a full meal. Area shops provide everything you need for your favorite outdoor sport – be it fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, etc – as well as great gifts and souvenirs to bring home (hopefully along with your photos of that once-in-a-lifetime trophy fish).
