Fishing the Conover/Phelps area kicks off each year with the Walleye opener in early May, with North and South Twin Lakes being favorite opening-day destinations. Trophy smallmouth bass and panfish action is incredible in late May. Summer and especially fall are musky time in the region. As the lakes cool down and the days grow shorter, muskies begin binge feeding for winter, resulting in fast action for anglers willing to brave the cold. Winter offers great ice fishing, from walleyes on tip-ups to panfish on jig rods.
